Private vs Group Tours in Turkey: Which Is Right for You?
Cost, flexibility, pace and comfort compared – and why a private tour can cost less per person than you think.

Most multi-day tours in Turkey are sold as group coach tours. They are affordable, but you share the bus with 30–45 strangers and follow a fixed timetable. A private tour gives you your own licensed guide and vehicle. Here is how the two compare.
Flexibility
On a private tour you decide when to start, where to stop for photos and how long to stay at each site. Want to see Ephesus at opening time or skip a shopping stop? Simply ask your guide.
Pace and time
A group of 40 needs about 20 minutes just to get on and off the bus. Small private groups move faster, which often means one or two extra sights per day.
Price per person
Private tours are priced by group size. For one traveller they are expensive, but for families or friends of 4–8 people the per-person price comes close to a premium group tour – with far more comfort. Every Holitera tour page shows the exact price for 1 to 8 travellers.
Guide quality
All our guides are licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. With a private guide you can ask questions all day and get explanations adapted to children, history lovers or photographers.
When a group tour makes sense
If you travel alone on a tight budget and like meeting other travellers, a group tour can be a good choice. If you value time, flexibility and privacy, choose a private tour.
Are entrance fees included? No – you pay them on the spot or use the Museum Pass Türkiye (about €165 per person), which covers most major sites.
Can we change the itinerary? Yes. Ask for a tailor-made version when you send your request.
